French Police Seize Thousands of Cannabis Plants in Alpine Raid

French Police Raid Large Indoor Cannabis Cultivation Warehouse in Morette, Unveiling Massive Drug Bust

In a major crackdown on illicit drug activities, French authorities have successfully raided an expansive indoor cannabis cultivation warehouse in the quaint village of Morette, located in the south-east of France. The operation, led by a collaborative effort between French and Albanian nationals, has resulted in the confiscation of a staggering 4,000 cannabis plants, with a combined weight of approximately 1,201 kilograms.

The raid, which followed an extensive eight-month investigation, marks a significant victory in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking. As a direct outcome of the operation, six individuals involved in the illicit enterprise have been apprehended and subsequently incarcerated, signaling a resolute stance against such criminal activities.

Upon infiltrating the targeted premises, authorities swiftly uncovered a sophisticated drug production network. The raided warehouse consisted of two expansive complexes, each housing its own meticulously arranged setup. The initial complex, spanning an impressive 375 square meters, served as a production facility where 1,550 plants were meticulously cultivated, amounting to a total weight of 508 kilograms. The facility was equipped with an array of advanced systems, including electrical, ventilation, hydration, UV, and drying mechanisms, all tailored to optimize cannabis cultivation.

The second structure, spanning an extensive 300 square meters, housed an additional 2,500 plants, weighing a total of 693 kilograms. The staggering scale of the operation further highlights the audacity and ambition of those involved in the illegal trade.

The estimated value of the confiscated cannabis plants and associated equipment is estimated to range between €10-15 million, underscoring the magnitude of the criminal enterprise. To reinforce their commitment to eradicating illegal cannabis cultivation and distribution, French authorities ensured the immediate destruction of all seized items on-site, a decision fully authorized by the public prosecutor’s office.

Of the six individuals apprehended, two Albanian nationals, serving as laborers in the operation, have already been handed prison sentences of 7 and 10 months, respectively. Furthermore, they face a five-year ban from reentering French territory, serving as a stark reminder of the severe repercussions associated with engaging in illegal cannabis cultivation.

The remaining four suspects remain in custody, awaiting their impending sentencing scheduled for August 9th. This case serves as a poignant testament to the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies throughout Europe to combat illegal drug operations. While the focus of this particular operation was in Morette, it underscores the broader determination to dismantle such illicit networks operating within and beyond the borders of France.
