Latest Updates on Cannabis Consumption Lounges in Nevada [2022]

Nevada is set to open new cannabis consumption lounges in late 2022 following the passage of legislation in June of the same year. This new development will provide visitors and locals with designated areas to consume cannabis products, addressing the lack of options previously available for consumers in Nevada.

Until now, individuals purchasing cannabis in Las Vegas have faced challenges finding suitable places to enjoy their products due to restrictions on consuming cannabis in public spaces. The new consumption lounges aim to address this issue and provide a safe and legal environment for cannabis consumption.

What to Expect from Cannabis Consumption Lounges in Nevada

Recreational cannabis has been legal in Nevada since 2017, but the lack of establishments for consumption has been a persistent problem for visitors. The only legal place to consume cannabis has been in private residences, limiting options for tourists and locals.

Can I Smoke Cannabis in a Casino?

Smoking cannabis has not been permitted in hotels and casinos due to legal restrictions. Even large marijuana stores have not been able to provide spaces for consumption. However, with the recent decision by the Cannabis Consumption Board, this is set to change.

Consumption Lounge Laws and Regulations

Existing cannabis stores will have the opportunity to apply for licenses to open consumption lounges later in the year. The first licenses are expected to be approved in the fall. To ensure inclusivity, the board will grant 50% of the initially approved requests to social equity applicants, who will need to submit a “diversity plan” as part of the application process.

Around 60 retailers have already expressed interest in opening a consumption lounge, and the Consumption Board plans to provide informational resources to help interested retailers understand the approval requirements.

Key Points about Lounge Rules

Here are some important regulations governing consumption lounges:

  • Alcohol consumption will not be permitted in consumption lounges.
  • Patrons will not be allowed to take unused cannabis products with them when leaving the lounge.
  • Cannabis use will be limited to a single, 3.5-gram serving.
  • Individuals cannot own both a retail business and an independent lounge license.
  • Licensing fees are non-refundable and amount to $10,000 for stand-alone lounges and $100,000 for retail stores.
  • Both indoor and outdoor lounges are permissible.

Expected Opening Date for Consumption Lounges in Nevada

The first state-approved consumption lounges in Nevada are expected to open by the end of 2022, generating significant anticipation among cannabis enthusiasts. With the passage of the legislation, regulators will now work on approving licenses, and many retailers have already begun discussing their plans for lounge designs.

Las Vegas is likely to become a major hotspot for cannabis consumers, attracting visitors who seek a similar experience to Amsterdam. Consumption lounges offer a unique way to socialize and have the potential to inspire a new trend akin to café culture.

Important Information about Las Vegas Cannabis Consumption Lounges

For years, visitors to Las Vegas have been purchasing cannabis products but have had limited options for consumption. Hotels and casinos do not permit cannabis consumption, forcing customers to consume their purchases at home. However, with the new legislation, individuals will have the opportunity to visit consumption lounges and enjoy their favorite cannabis products in an indulgent and ornately-decorated setting. Visitors can expect numerous lounges to open in 2023.
